About Us
Alter Albion is Brisbane’s alternative to a Registry Office or Courthouse wedding. Established in 2025, Alter Albion was set up as a solution for couples who want the ease of a Registry Office or Courthouse wedding, but less ”We’re marrying in a Government Building” and more “We’re keeping it simple and easy, but still a bit special.”
How It All Started
Alter Albion is the brainchild of Brisbane-based Celebrant, Roxy Hotten.
Having worked in the wedding industry since 2011, Roxy started to see a change in engaged couples’ vision of what a wedding could look like.
Roxy was noticing that in a post-Covid world, couples were looking at smaller, more meaningful moments, rather than the big, grand extravaganza that some weddings can be.
This, coupled with the cost of living crisis, meant that more and more couples were booking smaller weddings. However, in Brisbane, there was a lack of great places to hold these ceremonies. Many couples were choosing a park, their backyard, a small corner of a restaurant, or – and most popular – a registry office or courthouse.
And so, Roxy approached the owners of Craft’d Grounds, a precinct of independent restaurants, bars, brewers and bakers, in Albion, Brisbane knowing that this would be the perfect spot for simple, easy, yet special weddings.
The Concept
Roxy wanted Alter Albion to be the first choice in Brisbane for couples wanting a simple, easy, yet special wedding.
The venue is dressed with plants, with touches of gold and blush pink, with a capacity of up to 50 guests. At Alter Albion, couples don’t have to worry about arbours, flowers, decor: the room is already beautifully done, with just the right touch of ambience. Included in the venue hire price is the Celebrant, delivering a 15-20 minute ceremony written by Roxy.
Alter Albion has made it as easy as a Registry Office or Courthouse wedding. Couples can turn up and get married (after they’ve lodged their Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month beforehand, of course).
The USP
The true added extra is that after couples have married at Alter Albion, they have options on site to celebrate their marriage. From dinner for two, through to a full reception, Craft’d Ground tenants have options.
For example, Herves Restaurant and Bar has the La Petite offer of 2 hours of canapes and a celebratory drink, private dining options, or a la carte in their restaurant. Or, if couples want something more casual, then head on into Drift, a chilled out space with pay-as-you-go food and drink options.
Want just a coffee and a pastry? Sprout and Collingwood Black have you covered with this too.
