To Marry in Australia, you need to lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage

What is a Notice of Intended Marriage?

If you want to get married in Australia you need to fill in and lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage NOIM. All couples marrying need to lodge this form with a celebrant at least one month and up to 18 months before their wedding date. At Alter Albion, our team are made up of celebrants, and therefore you can lodge your NOIM with us.

Although the Notice of Intended Marriage is a fairly short form, it’s an easy one to make mistakes. Alter Albion can help you with filling in the form. If you’re filling this out yourself, the below may help you avoiding any mistakes.

General Notes to Help You Fill In Your NOIM

  • There are guidance notes on page 1 and 2.
  • Please fill in page 3 prior to your meeting with Alter Albion.
  • You can sign page 4  when you meet with Alter Albion.  Please do not sign or fill in anything on page 4 until you are at this meeting.
  • It’s important to write neatly and, if possible, use capital letters or you can enter the information onto the form electronically
  • If you make a mistake, don’t use white-out.  Instead, you can cross out the mistake, then write the correct information next to it
